Inclusive Design

Our platform is built with accessibility standards (WCAG) to serve learners of all abilities.

Why We Exist

The cost of education has skyrocketed. Academic journals charge thousands of dollars per subscription. Textbooks cost a semester's wages in many countries. Millions of aspiring learners are locked out simply because they can't afford access. At the same time, misinformation spreads online, and digital literacy gaps leave vulnerable populations exposed.

Intellect Archive was founded to fight back. We believe that knowledge is a public good — not a commodity to be hoarded behind paywalls. Every resource we offer is free, open, and designed to empower. We are building the digital library we wish we had growing up: one that serves curiosity, not profit.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." — Nelson Mandela

Our Six Pillars of Knowledge

We organize our library around six core categories, each addressing a critical area of learning need:

  • Academic Research & Archives: Peer-reviewed journals, primary sources, and scholarly databases for researchers worldwide.
  • STEM & Technical Literacy: Coding, engineering, mathematics, robotics, and applied sciences for innovators.
  • Digital Literacy & Safety: Online privacy, cybersecurity, media literacy, and digital citizenship.
  • Global Pedagogy & Teaching Resources: Lesson plans, inclusive strategies, and professional development for educators.
  • Professional Development & Vocational Skills: Career growth, trade skills, and workforce readiness.
  • Open Learning & Humanities: Philosophy, literature, history, arts, and cultural studies for lifelong learners.

Our Commitment to Open Access

We are proud signatories of the Budapest Open Access Initiative and the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources (OER). Every resource on Intellect Archive is either in the public domain, licensed under Creative Commons (allowing free sharing and adaptation), or made available with explicit permission from rights holders. We never host pirated or unauthorized content.

We also believe in open source technology. Our platform is built on free software, and we contribute back to the open-source community whenever possible.

How We're Funded

Intellect Archive is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are funded by:

  • Philanthropic grants from foundations committed to open education (Ford Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, and others)
  • Individual donations from users who believe in our mission
  • In-kind contributions of server space, software, and volunteer labor

We do not accept advertising, sponsored content, or any funding that would compromise our commitment to free, unbiased access. Our financial statements are published annually for transparency.
